Nike's self-lacing system is finally out into the world. The concept was exhibited by Nike yesterday and here is what it does.
Nike has placed a sensor in the shoe, which tightens the shoe lace as soon as the sensor detects the user's feet placed in the shoe. The user can then manually adjust it to their comfortability with the help of two physical buttons placed on either side of the shoe. One to tighten and the other to loosen the laces. The tightening and loosening are performed by little motors that are embedded into the shoe.

Nike named the shoes as HyperAdapt 1.0. They are now restricted to only Nike+ users around the world. Though, the company didn't release the product into the world. HyperAdapt is a program, which Nike sees as the platform to build footwear that doesn't need human interaction.

At the event, Beers, Senior Innovative, Nike, Inc., mentioned, “something that helps envision the world in which product changes as the athlete changes.”The potential of adaptive lacing for the athlete is huge. “It is amazing to consider a shoe that senses what the body needs in real-time. That eliminates a multitude of distractions, including mental attrition, and thus truly benefits performance.”
He concluded saying, “Wouldn’t it be great if a shoe, in the future, could sense when you needed to have it tighter or looser? Could it take you even tighter than you’d normally go if it senses you really need extra snugness in a quick maneuver? That’s where we’re headed. In the future, the product will come alive.
