June 21st marked the ban for "Maggi” which is a successful product in the line for Nestle since its launch. It has been banned across India as it was seized by the FDA.
An Indian Kitchen is incomplete, without “Maggi”, this proves the success rate, it held in the market for years until 2015, and all of this came down running amid protests from various governments and people of the country, Maggi was banned with immediate effect and left many with a heartbreak. Now, as we are well aware of the ban and its reason, due to greater amounts of lead content than the permissible limit.
Lead (Pb), as all of us, know is used in pencils, batteries, as alloys in metals etc. and also present in nature itself. Lead is found in the soil which can be absorbed by the plants along with other vital ingredients for its growth such as moisture, water and other nutrients. Since lead is not an edible substance, the food products are often tested to know the levels of lead present in a particular food substance and to ensure that the food substance does not harm the consumers. The tests are conducted by FDA (Food and Drug Administration). Excess amounts of lead in food products lead to reducing in IQ levels, impaired cognitive functions, behavior difficulties and other problems among children
There is yet another incident, and this time, with the follower of Maggi in the success Industry. “Yippie” noodles was found leaping the permissible limit of lead content in the production when checked by the Uttar Pradesh food regulator. If a ban is to be called, after a checkup, then it might arise serious doubts on other food products that we consume. The FDA revealed in a statement that, the reports show 1.057ppm of Lead which exceeds the permissible limit as given by the Head of FDA Department, Aligarh division, Chandan Pandey.
Advertisements lure people, it’s a way to market their product, but it’s our duty to know the ingredients of the product before we consume. Do keep a check on happenings and avoid those that doubt you.
