Prime Minister of India who is to launch the DigiLocker Service

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to launch the digital India campaign by launching Digital Locker, India's first cloud storage service, which helps people store their documents online securely without having to worry about them, as the cloud can be accessed any time from any destination.

DigitalLocker has been active in beta version since few months now, but the government will make it active formally on 1st of July 2015 as a kick-start to the Digital India Campaign.

The service will be monitored by the Department of Electronics and Information Technology(DeitY)of the Ministry of Communications and IT. The service can be activated by the user by linking it with the Aadhar number and a One Time Password(OTP) will be sent to the users registered mobile number to sign up, and then can change passwords accordingly.

A user can avail limited storage space of 10MB, this then can be used for storing the documents in electronic format, documents may vary from Study Certificates to Utility Bill Payments and PAN cards and other government issued certificates in a Scanned pdf format.

Digital Lockers are currently available worldwide, with Dropbox and Evernote leading the share, these also helps us share documents with a person and a user can expand his storage space, unlike the DigiLocker.

Government of India is also pushing an effort to launch e-signature for signing of documents though many doesn't have acceptance as of now. DigiLocker and e-signature will effectively save administration charges for the Government and this is a step towards e-governance which Mr.Modi clearly shows in his policy.

Hope we are in for a Digital Revolution, and rightly in the Digital Age.
