Flipkart starts hiring without the traditional interview procedure

E-Commerce giant Flipkart introduces innovative step in hiring process. Guess what?? You don't need to clear an interview, or simply, there will be no interviews to get you a job. Instead, it is focussing on Certified Nanodegree Programs from Udacity and completing other online projects. Flipkart in association with Udacity brought forth this modern framework in hiring.

Peeyush Ranjan, CTO at Flipkart said, “The kind of disruptive work that we do at Flipkart demands a world-class talent pool and we are constantly on the lookout for experts who can solve the problems of Indian consumers. The conventional hiring process often comes down to the performance of the candidate on that specific day, which may not be a true reflection of their skills and temperament. This is where a partner like Udacity comes into the picture”

People with certified Udacity Nanodegree Programs are directly recruited without having to clear the traditional interview procedure. Udacity is an educational organization which offers massive open online courses(MOOCs). The curriculum is built in partnership with industry-leading companies including GOOGLE, AMAZON, FACEBOOK, CLOUDERA and others.

With this move, we can see the shift in focus to potential and targeted hiring. The online projects and courses that you take part in the, nano degree programs are way more interactive and showcase your actual talent over the course of time. Whereas in a traditional hiring process, it is dependent on the performance on the day of his/her interview.

In another supportive scenario, Google estimates India requires 20 million mobile developers by 2020. To reach this mark, Google themselves have announced online Android developing courses in association with Udacity called Android Nanodegree. We can now see the real-hunch behind the nano degree programs.

Following this new procedure, Flipkart hired 3 people based on Udacity profiles. They are now placed in mobile development division.

With this, we see Flipkart's intention in going beyond the book, to make things standardized than they actually are.
